Actor Ryuichi Ohura (55), known for his roles in Ultraman and Kamen Rider, updated his blog on November 23, 2023, reporting that he has worked at an elementary school in Tokyo since April.
Mr. Ohura began by saying, "I have a report to share with you about my new self."
"Since April of this year, I have been working with the children three times a week as a teaching assistant at an elementary school in Chuo Ward that is said to have the longest history in Japan.''
Although he says that being involved in public education is "quite difficult for someone like me, who is often called a celebrity," he says, "I have been involved with various NPOs related to education in Chuo Ward since before they were established, so I decided to start working from there." He was introduced to this by a friend, and when he found out he was the actor Ryuichi Ohura, he happily accepted him.
"Right now, my days are like a drama.'' Ohura states. "I'm 55 years old. I eat school lunch with the children in the classroom. I'm living a life I never imagined possible.'' "At school, I use my real name and last name.'' "I'm called Mr. ○○. They even gave me a nickname,'' he said, adding that he was enjoying his time there. He said that in July he was invited to the school as a "career education guest teacher,'' and that he is already known to the students as an actor.
Regarding the reason why he has now revealed that he is working at a school, Ohura explains,
"I am the parent of a 20-year-old son and have been in the entertainment industry for 30 years. I have experienced both light and darkness. And now, I am also a teaching assistant. Because I thought there were a lot of important things.”
"Teacher shortages and overwork among teachers are currently a major social issue.I am truly humbled by the teachers who are extremely busy and work seriously with their students, even just in their school hours.''
After revealing the actual situation of teachers,
"At the same time, children are unique and precious beings. Each child has a wonderful individuality, and they demonstrate amazing sensitivity, imagination, and creativity, which goes beyond what we adults think. In this way, children are unique and precious beings. There are many things that I wouldn't have realized just as a parent if I hadn't spent time with my children. I hope to be able to positively convey what I can learn from these children.''
For readers, expresses,
“I strongly hope that as many people as possible will have a true understanding of children and deepen their understanding and cooperation with schools as educational institutions.”
and called out,
“I sincerely hope to be a part of the bridge that connects hearts and minds, for families and schools, for parents and children, and between people.”
